A team of 11 men are currently sitting at DFW airport waiting for their flight to Miami. I am privileged to be one of them. We are headed to a small fishing village called Abreu do Una in Brazil where we will be teaching discipleship material to men in the local church. But this trip is about so much more than sharing information. It is about doing life with other men who speak a different language but love the same Savior as we do. Discipleship is less about curriculum than it is about community. We will be doing life together; learning, loving, growing, praying and caring for one another. We will study the Scriptures together. We will share stories from our lives. We will open up about our weaknesses and failures, encourage one another to place our hope in Christ, and ask God to use us to make more disciples; not only in Brazil, but in Fort Worth, Texas when we return. We are a motley collection of Christ-followers, who hope to be used by God to accomplish His will in the short time we have while in Brazil. We are simply instruments in His highly capable hands. This is His work, not ours. The results are up to Him. And we can’t wait to see what He does in the days ahead.
